Shaw Lab

Dr.Shaw

Dr. Dana Shaw is the G. Caroline Engle Distinguished Professor of Infectious Diseases and a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology. The Shaw lab’s research focuses on understanding how and why ticks transmit pathogens that cause disease. Ticks are the most important disease vector in the United States and are a growing threat due to expanding habitats and longer active periods. The Shaw lab uses a multidisciplinary approach to dissect the molecular details at the pathogen-vector interface. Current methodologies include molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microscopy, structural biology, in silico prediction programs, and organismal biology. By integrating microbiology, immunology, and entomology the Shaw lab aims to gain a more holistic understanding of ticks and tick-borne disease.
